“The case I got from you works beautifully.  I just went to Rhode Island this weekend and took the old Dyer, with no gig bag.  It did great.  I love the case.  The caseXtreme works very well on its own, with just the foam pieces holding the hg in place.  Well done, your Eminence!” – Stephen Bennett

Here's how it works:

Dyer harp guitar ~ 5 pounds
  + HGM gig bag < 4 pounds
+ HGM flight case 16 pounds

=

Safe, practical, inexpensive, fairly indestructible, and lightweight!        Only 25 pounds total!

Soft cases provide protection for your instrument, without the weight and bulk of a traditional hard case.  While not suitable for checked baggage and other situations out of your oversight, they are great for gigs around town or camp.  Soft cases are frequently used for the following reasons:  Protect your instrument from temperature extremes and changes, Protect your instrument from unexpected rain or snow, Protect your back from the demands of a 10 to 15 pound hard case, Provides more efficient carry systems such as handles and backpack straps

Colorado Case brand soft cases and case covers come with a lifetime warranty, for the original purchaser, against all material or workmanship failures.  Repair or replacement is the sole decision of Colorado Case Company.  Failures deemed to be the result of abuse or neglects are not covered.

The Harp Guitar Music "Clamshell" Flight Case is made specially for us by CaseXtreme of San Diego, California, and is designed to be as small and light-weight as possible.  It is intended for the same harp guitars listed above, with or without the HGM gig bag.  If your instrument is noticeably longer or wider than the Dyer's 42" length (end pin to tip of headstock) and ~16" width, this case is not recommended.

Dimensions:
Outer: 47" x 20-1/2" x 9-1/2" (buckles and handles extra)
Inner: ~ 45-1/2" x ≥ 19-1/4" x ≥ 8"
There are several ways to fit an instrument:

Recommended C-clamp placement for a standard Dyer.  A loose instrument could be held in place as shown (Stephen Bennett has flown with this very set-up).  However, all clamps must be tight, so extra foam pieces must be rubber-banded together to firmly cushion the instrument from above, below and against all side walls. Otherwise, shifting may occur.  When the lid is closed, this further locks the pieces in place.  No muss, no fuss; the instrument simply "floats" in the box.  Note that the Dyer is slightly angled to put the protruding arm more in plane with the body.

The above arrangement is not necessarily recommended.  The padded HGM gig bag further protects the instrument from the elements and better fills the spaces in the C-clamps.  The tighter the fit, the better.  Note that the foam block at the tail end is off of the tail pin.  When a gig-bag is used, some material may need to be removed from foam clamps (the gig bag adds its own 1/2"-plus of cushioned padding surrounding the instrument).   In this case, I cut 1/2" of material from the insides of clamps 1, 2 & 3.  Note how I have deliberately stuffed the case so tightly that the sides ends are bulging - this is OK; the sides will all close in adequately when the lid is closed.  The more snug, the better!

I even managed to fit my old Harptone Dyer case, using thinner pads, and again, letting the walls bulge out.  Though I have deliberately bowed out all sides, the lid will force over these and strap together, as seen below.  The ends of the top lid tend to bow out regardless. An additional luggage strap could be wrapped around lengthwise, if desired - but I found it unnecessary during four connecting flights back and forth to the fifth Harp Guitar Gathering, with my Dyer and gig bag inside.

If you're looking for a sleek and sexy case, this is not it.  This is no-frills practicality - meant to be as lightweight but indestructible as possible.
(please note that Harp Guitar Music makes no guarantee for your instrument's safety)

How indestructible?  Check out the videos at right (but try to resist the temptation to jump up and down on your Dyer).  The tough, corrugated plastic will flex some, and may get scuffed and beat up by the airlines, but should protect the instrument floating inside for years to come.  1-year warranty on materials and manufacturing.

Includes 6 C-pads, spacer pads, shoulder strap and detachable wheels.  Instructional videos at right demonstrate easy use of the components.
