Kathy Wingert Harp Guitar
Stephen Bennett's original instrument

Back from finish touch-up and near new!

SOLD!

Yes, indeed - I am in possession of Kathy's second harp guitar - the one with the outrageous sycamore back and sides that Stephen Bennett bought on the spot after playing it for 2 hours during the 7th Harp Guitar Gathering.

Why would the Dyer-playing SB do such a seemingly impulsive thing?

Like "location" in real estate, for harp guitars, the 3 most important qualities are tone, tone and tone.

And that's what you're paying for here.

Oh, don't worry, you're also getting Kathy's impeccable playability, workmanship and design.  And in this one, you're also getting a few bonuses, like abalone rosettes, arm bevel, and that crazy sycamore, which comes from a quartered log where the angle drifted off the rift out at the sides.

The sound is typically indescribable - silky smooth, with perfect overtones from top to bottom and a robust (clear, rather than boomy) bass matched with loud, clear single notes all the way up the neck.  If you want to hear some sound samples, you're in luck!  Stephen recorded several pieces on it (just before his life-saving kidney transplant), and 2 of these original songs have been released on Harp Guitar Music CDs: "Adventure Dog," featured on my Good Dogs, Bad Dogs, Best Friends; and "Tipping Point," on the just-released Further Beyond Six Strings. (Yes, I'll include a copy of each for the new owner)

I also used it myself to record my Stephen Tribute piece on The Water is Wide.

If you're wondering why Stephen let this go (originally to a private party in Florida), it was mainly to have another built with a wider neck like his 1-7/8" Dyers.

It includes a worn, but excellent carbon flight case.

It has 2 clear pickguards on the top, as seen in the bottom right photo (the edges become more visible at certain angles).  There are several finish cracks in the top (finish only, not in the wood) from cold checking somewhere along its travels.  I decided to have these areas re-finished by Kathy, as so many have seemed overly concerned about it.  When done (I don't know when), I would advise you not to wait to take advantage of this rare opportunity if you are:

A) a serious harp guitar shopper
B) a Stephen Bennett fan
C) someone who has long dreamt of a Wingert instrument

If you're reading this, I assume that's you!
